Zombocalypse Tactics
NOTE: This is an EARLY ALPHA BUILD of a game that is still in development.
PREMISE
“Zombocalypse Tactics” (working title) is a rogue-like strategy RPG set in a magically-induced zombie apocalypse. Players command of a group of oddball survivors summoned by a mysterious time wizard across multiple timelines to save the world from an evil necromancer.
In the final game, each run the player will accumulate a team of up to 5 survivors, each with their own unique abilities, as well as items, equipment, and food as the group travels several maps, each with a handcrafted layout and completion goal.
This alpha build only features a single map (for now!). Your goal is to locate and defeat the boss zombo.
HOW TO PLAY
Zombocalypse is a turn-based, tile-based tactics game, like Fire Emblem, XCOM, or Into the Breach. Each turn, you will have a chance to command each of the characters of your party, and then afterwards, the enemy zombos will take their actions.
When the game begins, you can only see the contents of a single room. When a character opens a door, the next room will be revealed to you. Additionally, opening a room will activate all the zombos in that room, who will then begin pursuing and attacking your party of characters. You can use WASD or RIGHT CLICK + DRAG to move the camera around the map.
To command a character, click on their map sprite to display their movement range as well as a character-specific UI for selecting abilities and items.
- MOVEMENT: You move a character by tracing the path you want them to take after clicking on them. Characters can move multiple times each turn, but they can only move a total number of tiles equal to their MOV stat.
- ABILITIES: Each character has several unique Active Abilities, which are used to attack zombos or to perform support functions. A character can use 1 Active Ability per turn, assuming they have enough energy.
- INTERACT: Characters can freely interact with chests, door, and other characters when adjacent. Interacting with another character allows you to trade items between them.
- ITEMS AND EQUIPMENT: Characters can get consumable items and equipment from chests. There is no limit on how many items a character can use in a turn. Each character can wear up to 2 pieces of equipment
When you are done commanding your characters for a turn, press ENTER to end the player phase and pass the turn to the enemies.
A COUPLE DETAILS
1. Attacks are categorized as [Strikes] or [Projectiles]. Higher DEF means better protection from Strikes, while higher EVA means better protection from Projectiles.
2. All abilities have a range (Close, Mid, Long) that determines which tiles the ability can hit.
2. Characters and enemies have the following stats:
- HP: If this reaches 0, they pass away
- ENERGY: This is consumed to use abilities
- MOVEMENT (MOV): The number of tiles they can move each turn
- STRENGTH (STR): Determines damage done by certain attacks
- KNOWLEDGE (KNO): Determines damage done by certain attacks
- ACCURACY (ACU): Determines damage done by certain attacks
- WISDOM (WIS): Determines health restored with healing abilities and items
- DEFENSE (DEF): Reduces the damage taken from [Strikes]
- EVASION (EVA): Gives a % chance to completely dodge [Projectiles]
- CRITICAL (CRI): Gives a % chance for attacks to deal 2.5x damage, or for healing abilities to restore 2.5x HP.
3. All characters, and some enemies, have a Passive Ability, which can be seen in the Inspect menu.
